Onward on the way to Kadesh

Muwatalli, ruler of the Hittites
Tried to trick me, but failed

His chariots, unnumbered as the sand
Laid in ambush, shred through my divisions

None of my princes, of my chief men and great,
Is with me, not a captain, not a knight

But I am like Baal, I’m like Sutekh
In this hour I hurled them headlong
One upon another, into the water
Of the Orontes they flew

And their limbs were loosed
For fear and terror
And they had not any heart
All courage was vanished

And I hew
them into pieces,
And I dashed
them into dust

And I slaughtered
At my pleasure
And I killed them,
None escaped me

So, Here I stand, All alone;
There was no one at my side,
My warriors and chariots afeared,
Have deserted me, none heard my voice,

But I find that Ammon's grace is better far to me
